The application of machine learning analysis into research on medical decision making raises many important questions. How should the ethicality of artificial intelligence research methods be appraised? How do artificial intelligence research methods align with ethical standards of human subject studies?  This webinar examines the intersections of artificial intelligence, medical decision making and research ethics. First, a research project utilising AI methods on medical research the AIMind is introduced. Second, what constitute as ethical or trustworthy AI methods in medical research is discussed. The session ends with an open Q&A.Professor Riitta Salmelin’s research focuses on language function as an integral part of human cognition. She is a member of the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity (TENK) and was appointed as Aalto Distinguished Professor in 2023. 


Who can participate?

Please note that some of the content may be Aalto University specific. Note also that national ethical guidelines of Finland are used to frame the discussion. Anyone interested in the topic can join. No prior knowledge is required. The webinar is free and open to all. 


Format

A 1-hour webinar with a presentation and a Q&A.

The webinar will be held online via Zoom on October 31, at 10–11 PM Eastern European Time (EET).
